I just read this article, To Fix a Heart, Doctors Train Girl's Body to Grow New Part by Ron Winslow in the Wall Street Journal and wanted to pass it along. The article discusses a breakthrough procedure developed by doctors at Yale University. The patient Angela Irizarry, a four year old girl, was born with only a single pumping chamber in her heart. The new procedure is training or coaxing her body to grow a new blood vessel where there is not one currently. I find it fascinating that technology continues to push the boundaries for advancement in the healthcare industry.
